We had to wait a long time for the appearance of fingerprint scanners directly in the displays. The first information about them appeared several years ago, but their refinement took a long time and we can only call it now refined technology. In all this, there were also controversial problems. In the case of readers with the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 it was possible to cheat them using only a protective film for the panel, because then everyone could access the device. Fortunately, the company has fixed it.
Until now, their use was limited only to more expensive models with OLED screens. Fortunately, this is changing and now more emphasis will be put on the development of these scanners for LCD panels. In this way, it will be possible to implement readers in low and mid-range phone displays. Goodix Technologies from China, CEO of one of the providers of such solutions, said more about this. Zhang Fan emphasized that her company managed to develop a technology to produce scanners for LCD panels and they will be one of the most important new products in phones in 2020 next to 5G.
I hope that we will soon meet new budget budgets that will be able to boast of a scanner on the screens. Currently, the cheapest equipment only offers a face recognition system. Unfortunately, it is based only on the front camera without additional sensors, making it difficult to talk about a good level of security. I think the appearance of scanners on the screen has a chance to help in this area.
