TP-Link Neffos X20 looks really great. The shape of the device is simple, elegant, and the black color version really goes well with the whole. Of course, according to the prevailing fashion, the device has shiny backs that are fingering relatively quickly and this can irritate. On the plus side you have to include small frames around the screen.
The smartphone was made of plastic. In my opinion, plastic is a suitable material in such models, because it offers lower weight, adequate strength and does not feel that we are dealing with a budgetary. High quality of workmanship has a significant impact on this. The equipment fits comfortably in your hand and you can easily use it with one hand.
The phone offers standard equipment when it comes to connectors. We have microUSB 2.0 and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Notification LED is missing, but now it's standard. You can also complain about the lack of notification LEDs.
The panel has a diagonal of 6.26 inches. In my opinion, it is the right size panel, which is great for everyday use, and at the same time with almost frameless smartphones allows you to keep the compact dimensions. The set has HD + resolution. 1520 x 720 pixels do not guarantee perfect image sharpness, but you can get used to it.
The IPS TFT LCD matrix performs well. It offers eye-pleasing colors, although they could be more vivid, wide viewing angles and pure white. In turn, black could be deeper. Touch sensitivity and maximum brightness remain unqualified.
TP-Link Neffos X20 is powered by the Mediatek MT6761 quad-core system, which consists of four ARM Cortex A53 2 GHz cores and PowerVR GE8300 graphics. This best shows that we are dealing with a low-end, although 2 GB RAM seems to be more problematic.
In games, SoC checks on average. Yes, we will launch most of the titles from the Play Store, but only the simpler ones will work smoothly without sudden drops in the number of displayed frames per second. On the plus side, no problems with excessive heating.
In everyday operation TP-Link Neffos X20 does not disappoint. It works stably and smoothly, and this is not so obvious in this class of models, so praise is due. The performance speed itself is worse. A fairly slow processor means a lot of difficulty in this matter, just like a modest 2 GB RAM limit any multitasking. In the background we can leave two programs running, which is a poor result.
Sling Shot Extreme (OpenGL ES 3.1 / Vulkan): 258 / –
About 23 GB of data is left to us. This is a sufficient amount and I think that most users will be completely satisfied with it. If necessary, of course, we have a microSD card slot up to 128 GB.
AndroBench built-in memory test:
– sequential data reading – 276.78 MB / s,
– sequential data storage – 92.12 MB / s,
– random data reading – 39.49 MB / s,
– random data write – 8.72 MB / s.
TP-Link Neffos X20 works under the control of Android 9 Pie with the original NFUI 9 overlay. The whole looks quite nice and you can see the progress from generation to generation, although I'm not a fan of the appearance of this interface myself. Surely, you have to add quite a lot of personalization options and prepared additional functions.
Neffos X20 offers the following additional functions here:
- App Cloner – we can have two the same applications, e.g. Facebook, WhatsApp,
- Editing the button bar – you can use three or two keys (similar to those of pure Android),
- Gestures on the blank screen – the ability to start the application after drawing the letter on the locked display,
- Gestures on the fingerprint scanner – you can control it with the notification bar or taking pictures,
- swimming button
- Adjustable screen sensitivity – three levels available: low, medium, high.
The equipment offers a fingerprint scanner on the back. It should be praised for its speed of action and precision, although in addition to it the manufacturer decided to add a face recognition system. It works correctly, but it is worth using it as a supplement for the reader, because as a stand-alone solution it is not reliable enough.
In this respect, TP-Link Neffos X20 very positively surprised. because we get dual band WiFi and Bluetooth 5, which is still rare. In addition, dual SIM standby, LTE and GPS have appeared. The location itself is quite efficient, although the accuracy of its indications could be better. The rest of the modules work without reservations. The quality of the conversations is decent. The microphone registers our voice well, although it has a problem with noise reduction, and the speaker itself could have a higher maximum volume.
A single multimedia speaker on the bottom edge is distinguished by quite pleasant sound, at least up to a certain volume level. For games or YouTube it will be perfect. You should be aware that the low or high tones may be too little audible. The situation looks a bit better on headphones. After all, less demanding users will be happy with the sound on the headphones, although it would be difficult to expect something different from the budget.
The smartphone has been equipped with a 13 and 5 megapixel main camera and 8 megapixel front camera. The software is transparent and even mode has appeared in it artificial intelligencewhich automatically detects the scene and it works surprisingly well. We also have HDR, panorama, manual mode, night mode or face embellishment mode.
Neffos X20 provides good quality photos in good lighting conditions. The dual camera does not provide sensational effects and it is easy to see from the photos below that we are dealing with a cheap phone. On the plus side, quick sharpening and saving of the photo itself. After dark it is difficult to talk about any quality, because the equipment tends to record everything with a lot of noise. Selfie quality without reservations. Movies can be recorded in maximum Full HD resolution at 30 frames per second and are correct, but image stabilization and smoother exposure adjustment are definitely lacking.
4100 mAh in combination with energy-saving components translates into very good times. The smartphone recorded operating times on the screen on the level of 5.5 to 7.5 hours at LTE, and with WiFi you can reach up to 8.5. Charging from 0 to 100% takes about 140-150 minutes.
Currently TP-Link Neffos X20 costs PLN 499. At this price, it's an interesting choice for people who are looking for a cheap smartphone with decent telecommunications facilities and do not want to have a great smartphone camera. An attractive appearance, a decent screen and refined software as well as a long working time also work in its favor. Among the disadvantages would be gaming performance, only 2 GB of RAM and a below average camera.
TP-Link Neffos X20 rivals:
- Alcatel 1S – a refined option at a lower price,
- Huawei Y5 2019 – similar performance offer for PLN 449,
- Redmi 7A – a great low-end offer that offers a very good price-performance ratio,
- TP-Link Neffos X9 – it's also worth checking out the older model with 3 GB RAM,
- production quality,
- fingerprint scanner,
- stable operation,
- functional software,
- long working time.
- only 2 GB RAM,
- no NFC,
- limited multitasking,
- gaming performance
- photo quality.
