The company can follow other giants of the IT industry. Adobe can be another entity that will develop its own chip, fully adapted to the requirements of one of the largest software companies in the world. The company’s representatives made it clear that they are seriously thinking about such an option, although there are also several obstacles that can be difficult to overcome without changing the product offer.
The Axios service was the first to inform about possible plans, which revealed some interesting information from the company’s internal conference. During its lifetime, the company’s technology director, Abhay Parasnis, raised the issue of preparing his own layout for specialized tasks such as machine learning. Parasnis wondered if Adobe would have to become an ARM licensee. Decisions have not yet been taken, but the entity is to pay attention to this.
A little later, the company’s technology director stated that the ARM architecture gives the software developer great opportunities to adapt the application to the equipment and vice versa – the equipment to application. The preferred option is to create your own layout, but according to Parasnis it is not required. Adobe could simply work closely with one of the companies already manufacturing their own ARM processors.
Here we come to a significant limitation, which Axios draws attention to. Adobe does not have its own data centers like Facebook and Google. Therefore, the entity is highly dependent on its partners providing cloud solutions and servers. Besides, the construction of your own chip will consume a lot of funds and requires a very large and experienced team of engineers. For this reason, you will have to wait quite a long time for the effects of possible Adobe decisions. It is also significant that Parasnis pointed ARM as the future of the processors, at the same time striking at Intel, whose products would lose their importance.
